show at Studio 5404 Artspace
(not for profit organization), in
conjunction with the Long Island
Progressive Coalition. The
Long Island Progressive Coalition (LIPC) is a grassroots community-based
organization founded in 1979, dedicated to promoting
sustainable development, revitalizing local communities, enhancing human
dignity, creating effective democracy, and achieving economic, social and
racial justice. Artwork on display for this installation reflects
different personas in our unique democratic landscape and subjects relating to
immigration, gun control, LGBT rights, environment and the current global climate. Today we need
the arts more than ever to vent, to comment, to react to our current conditions
and digest how we perceive world events, creating greater understanding and
unity.
Live music by Toby Tobias: Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa,
Toby has immersed himself in many genres of American Music while never leaving
behind his roots in the rhythms and melodies of his homeland. The show's message is one of racial equality,
understanding of each other's cultures and religions and a strong desire for
togetherness in a world which seeks to divide rather than bring together.
